Researching at the Huntington Library

Information on using the Huntington Library.

The Huntington Library provides reproductions of material to both readers and the public. Orders for reproductions are filled by The Huntington’s Imaging Services department and should be placed through Aeon, our library’s request system.

Orders for Imaging Services are fulfilled to the extent allowed by the material format, physical condition of the item(s) and any applicable restrictions. All orders are subject to the approval of the Curatorial and/or Preservation departments before reproduction. Some orders incur a special setup fee (e.g., oversized material, fragile material requiring special handling). In this case, you will be contacted by Reader Services before your order is processed.

N.B. For preservation, the Library will substitute a photostat, facsimile or microfilm in place of the original for reproduction. This is often the case for materials with the “RESTRICTED” status in the online catalog. If your request requires photography of the original, please contact the library.

Reproduction FAQs

When can I expect my order to arrive?
The standard turnaround time is 10 business days after payment is received. Delays may occur due to conservation treatments or unforeseen scheduling conflicts. Special services or setups (e.g., audio, video and oversized material) have a turnaround estimated by the photographer.

Can I expedite my order?
Rush orders are accommodated whenever possible and incur an additional fee. Rush service is available by advance request at a 50% surcharge for a five-day turnaround and a 100% surcharge for a two-day turnaround. For example, we provide publishing-resolution images for a fee of $25.00 per page:

$25.00 publishing-resolution image fee + $12.50 Rush fee = $37.50

$25.00 publishing-resolution image fee + $25.00 Super Rush fee = $50.00

How can I track the status of my imaging request?
Log in to Aeon to view the order status of your outstanding orders. Help with interpreting order status can be found here.

Where is my WeTransfer notification?
Messages are occasionally filtered to spam or junk mail folders. If the status of your imaging request is “Order Delivered” and you did not receive a message in your inbox or spam folder, please contact the library.
